Jimmy Lang struggles for the first time this year at ORP. Watermelon Capital Speedway and ASALMS South competition is next!

Posted May 8th, 2008

19-year-old Jimmy Lang, the ASALMS Southern Division Points Leader and winner of the first two South Features of the 2008 season, will go for the “Three-Peat” this weekend in the Watermelon Bowl 100 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. (ASALMS File Photo)

By Jimmy Lang Racing / Speed 51
Bluffton, South Carolina (Thursday, May 8, 2008): Jimmy Lang has been super hot in ASA Late Model Series racing. The last two starts in the ASALMS Southern Division have resulted in trips to victory lane for the Bluffton, South Carolina driver.

Yet, his first start in the ASALMS Challenge Division in ’08 did not net the triumph that Lang has come accustomed to. Lang started strong 200-lap event at O’Reilly Raceway Park (IN), but ended up coming home 13th.

“We tried to compensate by loosening the car up more so it would be better in the longer run,” said Lang. “I was thinking that the car would come to me more at the end of the run. Then car got really loose and I smacked the wall in the final laps.”

Lang was fast on both Friday and Saturday in practice. At the 100-lap halfway point Lang was running 7th, but that’s where the trouble began. After several adjustments to the car, one thing was clear; Lang was not the only guy with handling issues at ORP.

“I though my car was bad, but I watched the three cars in front of me hit the wall coming off turn two as well. We were all chasing our cars.”

Lang is running for the championship in both the ASALMS Southern Division as well as the Challenge Division! The effort is to get more laps against better drivers.

“There’s more competition with guys like Eddie Hoffman and Peter Cozzolino. Those boys who run up north are pretty stout and that’s good for us.”

The next event for Lang will be at on Saturday, May 10th at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. After racing at ORP in Indiana, the Cordele event will be a homecoming of sorts.

Two Top 5s has Colt James thinking ahead to the 2008 ASALMS Southern Division Championship!

Posted May 7th, 2008

Colt James (Right), his Father, Terry James (Left) and the rest of Colt James Motorsports are focusing their efforts solely on the 2008 ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Championship! That title chase continues this Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia in the running of the Watermelon Bowl 100. (ASALMS File Photo)

By Colt James Motorsports / M.P.H. Promotions
Troutman, North Carolina (Wednesday, May 7, 2008): Colt James is thinking long term when it comes to the 2008 ASA Late Model Series Southern Division Championship!

Sure the Buda, Texas driver is behind in the title chase to two-time ASALMS South Feature Winner, Jimmy Lang, but the 25-year-old veteran knows it’s a long season and there’s still plenty of time to garner that first Feature win of the season.

After a Fourth and a Runner-up showing in the first two South shows, James and his Colt James Motorsports Team are now preparing for the third race of the season, the Watermelon Bowl 100 at the 4/10s mile semi-banked d-shaped paved oval of Watermelon Capital Speedway, located South of Macon in Cordele, Georgia.

Heading into the third race of the ASALMS Southern Division season, James is second in the season long points chase 38 markers back of current points leader, Jimmy Lang (392-354).

“I’m really looking forward to the race at Watermelon. We raced there a few years ago so hopefully we can have a good weekend and have a good strong finish. Maybe even get a little closer to Jimmy there and make this points chase interesting.” Stated James. “It’s a long season though, we’ve got time.”

“I just have to give a big thanks to my crew for all their hard work and Magnum Trailers, Hamke Race Cars, and Day Motorsports, without everyone working so hard, we wouldn’t even be considering going after a championship!” He added.

Easton’s Story

Leesburg, Georgia (Tuesday, May 6, 2008): Easton is the 8-year-old son of Brian & Heather Blanchard and the older brother of Gracee Blanchard. He is the grandson of Royce and Linda Blanchard and Julie Adams all of Leesburg and Stan and Wanda Adams of Sylvester.

He attends the 3rd grade at Twin Oaks Elementary in Lee County. He has two very special teachers, Mrs. Turoski and Ms. Butler.

Born July 02, 1999, Easton was diagnosed with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. He had numerous struggles and hurdles to overcome. He is so strong and has made it a personal goal of his to see that he does his best to overcome anything he is faced with.

Because of Easton and goals he sets for himself, it is easier for the rest of his family and friends to make goals and overcome all hurdles and struggles they are faced with also.

January 23, 2007, Easton was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Macon, Georgia with abdominal pain. At first, he was being treated for constipation. His condition deteriorated and on January 25, 2007 he developed a mid gut vovulus.

Since then he has had 4 surgeries. The last surgery was on February 03, 2007. As a result of the vovulus he only has 4 inches of small intestine left. He now has both an ileostomy and jejunostomy. Due to the loss of small intestine he has required a permanent IV catheter be placed in his chest for long term IV nutrition.

On November 5, 2007, he started a week long journey in Pennsylvania at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. During his stay, he met with a team of experts. This team consists of specialists in clinical nutrition, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, nursing, radiology, pediatric surgery and transplant surgery.

This approach enables Intestinal Care Center (ICC) to evaluate and assess needs for each individual. We proved our case and showed that Easton deserves to have a second chance at life. HE MADE THE NATIONAL LIST.
